Slain by Darkness

Truth was dead,

And he could not blame her for it,

As it had been slain everywhere in red,

And she only followed the selfish skit.

Truth had been tracked like an animal,

Into the lair where it dwelt and fed,

Hunted until it lost its will,

And where it was beheaded.

It died alone in shadow,

In darkness, birds gone silent,

And love and peace too were laid low,

And the slayers were not repentant.

So it could not exist in her heart or mind,

As it now existed nowhere in the world,

Though she’d left her soul behind,

Truth’s soul could not be heard.

He’d only loved her, turned to dread,

Driven mad by her deceit,

That was the truth, but truth was dead,

It lay lifeless at her feet.
