One False Step

Give me everything you’ve got,

Every undeserved ounce of hate,

Lay every bit of nastiness

At me feet outside my gate.

I take it all with pleasure,

For I know it’s based in self-deceit.

You can no longer harm me viciously,

With your baseless, cold conceit.

You do not deserve to live happily,

Your lies have earned nothing but strife,

But the universe will give you glee.

An ironic perversity of life.

But as you climb away from me

Remember well you’ve more to lose than I,

And one false step, one slip of vanity

Will send you plummeting from sky.

And I cannot catch you, you’ll not allow it

I’ll only watch as you descend to hell,

And I may shed one tear, but that is all,

For you did not choose well.

Selfishness was your only guide,

You were not honest, never true,

So send me all the hate you have,

For all I did was want you.
