Father's Day

As you sit in church,

As you feign piety, act as if you’ve live up to your chosen obligations,

Those chosen for you, the faith given to you in name,

And you grieve for your loss,

Know that your grief is justified.

He is all you knew.

I too lost mine right after yours, as I was trapped in the turmoil you helped create.

He was never there, and that was not a loss, and no that does not confirm your invented theories.

Did you tell yours what you did, all of it?

No, you did not, could not have.

Would he have been proud of you if you did?

As you seek sympathy and pray today,

Remember what you yourself said, said in front of many,

That he was too strict, too patriarchal, though uttered in fewer words,

And realize that he is likely the reason you seek to be submissive to bad men,

Why you, even now, seek to replace him with his likeness in mind,

As you lionize him and wish to replace him with one whom holds his demeanor, the demeanor you did not appreciate,

An authoritarian man, while you also profess your hatred of authority figures, cops.

Where do you think that came from?

Realize it, for it has done you damage in the realm of love,

Warped your perceptions for your entire life.

Deny it as you will, but the truth remains.

Grieve, little one, for you should,

Grieve deeply, but do not deceive yourself or anyone else any longer.
