The Ruse's Thorn

It took years of every day to see what seemed like magic inside of you,

And though it wasn’t real the love it sparked was sincere and true.

But you still believe you’ll find the same on a date with one who’s shallow,

Or in passing, spontaneous attraction, some childish fantasy in tow.

But those you chose only see the outside, what’s only good for show,

And what is left of that now, my dear?—The meaning you should know.

So you’ve stuck yourself with either those who fantasized about you in the past,

But that’s not who you are, nor they, and has no foundation that can last.

Or with a stranger who has dug his reputation into dirt,

That’s what you choose to flirt with, ugliness with whom you flirt.

Or with an immature whelp looking for money and a mommy to abuse,

You left yourself with those three option, so it’s assured that you will lose.

And it was always your choice.
